AIG Supports Malaysia’s Transformation Agenda

Kuala Lumpur, 20 November 2012: American International Group (AIG), one the world’s largest global insurance companies, has entered into an agreement with Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) to expand the existing operations of AIG Global Services (AIGGS) and AIG Shared Services (AIGSS) with a commitment to increase its knowledge worker segment over a 7 year period.

AIG and MDeC recently formalized the agreement during the a signing ceremony witnessed by Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz, Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia and Steve Miller, Chairman of AIG. Also present at the ceremony was the U.S. Ambassador to Malaysia, Paul W. Jones.

The agreement signifies AIG’s commitment to expanding the existing operations of its global support services to AIG businesses worldwide. This strategic move is closely aligned to the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) and MDeC’s strategy to support the broader Economic Transformation Programme (ETP), in its vision to transform Malaysia into a highincome nation and knowledge-based economy by 2020.

Commenting on this new development, Steve Miller said, “AIG’s growing footprint in Malaysia supports the Malaysian Government’s agenda of propelling the country from a middle income to a high-income bracket and a knowledge-driven economy with skilled and highly paid workers, which is something that we are certainly very proud of. AIG has a proud history in Malaysia that spans nearly 60 years and this market has been an important one for us, not just for our insurance operations, but also for our key global internal business operations. The expansion of our operations here solidifies our commitment to the market and cements our position as a market leader.”
